Zlatan's Malmö Transfer Story

Here is how Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped his boyhood club reach the UEFA Champions League without even playing for them. Hailing from Rosengard in Malmö, the Swedish striker spent the early years of his career with his local club, Malmö FF. Impressive performances with the first team drew interest from European heavyweights, including Arsenal. Ultimately, Zlatan signed for Dutch side Ajax in 2001 for a transfer fee of £6.7 million. However, his boyhood club didn't stop receiving payments.
Every time Ibrahimovic changed clubs, Malmo FF received a fraction of the transfer fee as FIFA training compensation and solidarity payments. After leaving Malmo, Zlatan's subsequent transfers were worth £138.6 million, which brought a further £4 million to the Swedish side. The club invested this amount in the squad and qualified for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage on three occasions.
The night of November 26, 2015, was special when Ibrahimovic and his PSG side arrived at Malmo for the Champions League Group Stage encounter. PSG won 5-0, with Zlatan scoring one in the second half.
