Why FC Barcelona are not playing at the Camp Nou?
Barca have been playing at the Camp Nou since 1957. In terms of capacity, it is the biggest stadium in Europe, housing 99,354 fans. However, they’ve been playing their home games this season at the Estadio Olympic Lluis because the Camp Nou is currently under renovation.
Barcelona will end up spending 1.5 billion euros for the renovation, with the help of 20 different lenders. The naming rights deal with Spotify, which is worth around 280 million euros, will also aid in the process.
The stadium’s capacity will be increased to 105,000, the VIP and VVIP area will be revamped, there will be a 30 thousand square meter roof cover full of solar panels, alongside a host of other changes being made.
Club president Joan Laporta has said that “Barcelona will have the best stadium in the world” once the renovation is complete around November 2024.
