The tradition of Liverpool fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone(YNWA) at Anfield, the club's home stadium, has a deep and historical significance.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" was originally a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical called "Carousel." However, it gained immense popularity when it was covered by the Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963.
Bill Shankly, Liverpool's legendary manager between 1959 and 1974, played a significant role in popularising the tradition of singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Anfield.

Liverpool's success in European competitions during the 1970s, including winning the UEFA Cup and the European Cup, helped solidify "You'll Never Walk Alone" as a symbol of the club's triumphs. The tragic Hillsborough disaster of 1989, in which 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives, further intensified the emotional connection between the song and the club.
