Real Madrid's new retractable pitch!

Santiago Bernabeu, home to Real Madrid, has always been marvelled at for its grandeur. Recently, the stadium underwent renovation, and the new version has some stunning new features.

It now has a fully retractable pitch that can be pushed underneath the surface. This allows the club to rent out the stadium for concerts, basketball games, and more, which will bring in additional revenue worth several millions every single year.

The pitch, when pushed underneath the surface, is well taken care of. The underground space has air conditioning, LED lights, and ultraviolet light therapy, among other facilities.

The other upgrades as part of the renovation, which has cost almost a billion euros, include a rooftop and increasing the stadium’s capacity from 81,000 to 85,000.

The Bernabeu is not the first football stadium to have a retractable pitch. The feature is available at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as well. But in terms of size and sophistication, the new-look Santiago Bernabeu personifies Real Madrid’s reputation as the most successful club in Europe.
