Inter Milan transfer strategy - Blessing in disguise
Inter Milan has reached the Champions League Final by spending a fraction of fellow finalists Manchester City. The Nerazzurri lineup that started against AC Milan in the semifinals was comprised of three free transfers and a loanee. Additionally, four players were in their thirties. Dzeko and Mkhitaryan created history as two players aged 34 or more scored in a Champions League knockout game for the first time.
Interestingly, the Italian club invested just €114 million in transfers to assemble a Champions League semifinal starting eleven, while Manchester City spent a staggering €638 million. However, it's not Inter’s shrewd scouting strategy. The club has been in financial trouble for many years. Despite winning the Scudetto in 2021, the debt forced Inter to sell its star players, Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi. Nevertheless, Inter’s constrained squad could prove to be a blessing in disguise if they manage to win the coveted trophy after 13 years. But will Guardiola's City let it slip again?
