When it comes to supporting their teams in the stadium, football fans are known to be the loudest. They can be just as hostile as they can be galvanizing. Stadiums like Anfield and Signal Iduna Park come to mind when talking about fantastic atmospheres in stadiums, but few can trump the Galatasaray fans at the Turk Telekom Arena.
In fact, in a match between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray S.K. at the latter’s home, the fans broke the decibel record, reaching 131.76 decibels. This made it to the Guinness World Records book for the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium.
Interestingly, this record was broken a couple of years later in 2013. NFL side Seattle Seahawks were playing the San Francisco 49ers, when the former team’s fans notched up a mind-boggling 131.9 decibels, which was 0.2 decibels higher than the Galatasaray fans.
