Deportivo de La Coruna Garlic Superstition
From John Terry parking his car in the same spot to David Beckham getting his fridge in order before a game, superstitions are no novelty in football.
The Spanish club Deportivo de La Coruna has a superstition as well, which involves Garicl! That's right! Their fans have a ritual in their home stadium, Riazor, where they line the pitch with pieces of garlic. This is not just for good luck, but as a Deportivo fan site explained, it's to keep the witches or evil spirits away.
Some fans even paint the garlic pieces white and blue!
In ancient Rome, garlic was supposedly used to ward off witches. And in several other cultures as well, it's used to disgorge the evil eye!
Now we know what to thank for Deportivo's 1 La Liga and 2 Copa del Rey titles!
