Atalanta - The most financially sustainable club in Europe

In a football world where big-money clubs like Barcelona are in billions of euros of debt, a modest club is quietly setting the financial sustainability standards. According to a report published by Off the Pitch in 2022, Atalanta emerged as the most financially robust club in Europe. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the club registered a profit for the sixth year in a row and accumulated over €175 million in net profits. Interestingly, the Italian club’s key to success lies in its exceptional scouting system. From 2016 to 2021, Atalanta made almost €250 million in profits from player sales while continuously improving its on-field performances. The club qualified for UEFA competitions for five consecutive seasons, which saw its revenue triple during this period. Nevertheless, the club remained sensible with its expenses. Atalanta’s 47.4% wage-to-turnover ratio in 2021 was by far the lowest in Serie A.
