Are the Euros harder than the World Cup?

Kylian Mbappe recently said winning the Euros is harder than winning the World Cup. Is he right? Let's find out.

According to data, the average FIFA ranking of the teams that participated in the Euros 2024 was 26.96. The highest-ranked team in the tournament was France, with a FIFA ranking of 2, and Georgia was the lowest-ranked team with 75.

On the contrary, at the World Cup 2022, the average FIFA ranking of the qualified teams was 21.78. Brazil and Ghana were the highest and lowest-ranked teams, with FIFA rankings 1 and 61, respectively.

Interestingly, in May 2022, the French superstar made similar remarks, saying that Europeans always win the competition. Well, 10 of the 22 World Cups played so far have been won by non-European countries. Let alone lifting the trophy, 2020 European Champions Italy failed to even qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
