Andre Schurrle: World Cup Winner to Climbing Mount Everest

Andre Schurrle is preparing to climb Mount Everest in one go. The FIFA World Cup winner retired from football at the age of 29 to take up extreme sports.

Do you know there is a World Cup winner who is preparing to climb Mount Everest in one go?

Andre Schurrle began his football career at Mainz, before moving to Bayer Leverkusen, where his 39 goal contributions in 89 games caught Chelsea's fancy, and they signed him in 2013. Schurrle won the League Cup and Premier League with the Blues, but of course, his career highlight came at the 2014 World Cup, where he assisted Mario Gotze's winner in the final.

After a successful career at Chelsea, and stints at a few other clubs, in 2020, at just 29, he shocked the football world, announcing his retirement.

But since then, life has been more adventurous than ever for the German. In January 2023, he climbed a mountain barechested when the temperature was -19 degrees centigrade. A few months later, he climbed the highest mountain in Germany, again, shirtless!

Apart from that, Schurrle has also been seen running several long-distance marathons. It's safe to say that at 33, he is pushing and testing his body more than he ever did as a professional footballer.
